Top 10 Ways to Feng Shui Micro Wedding
Micro weddings have been a trend for engaged couples since the pandemic started. This term was literally just coined around 2020 and an online search would yield varying results as to its scope in terms of the number of guests involved. Some say 15, others 25 and a few would say 50 and below.
For this post, I'm sticking to 15. I believe micro weddings need to be extremely intimate to be able to stay tru to its intimate vibe.
In a nutshell, micro weddings have the same elements as a regular wedding. You simply shrink two things: quantity and lavishness.
You still get to enjoy good food, fine wine, excellent cake, gorgeous flowers, pretty decorations, dancing and partying the night away.
There are a lot of advantages to a micro wedding. Not only do you get to slash a big chunk off your budget but you also get to trim your guest list to those who truly matter.
Intimate affairs can be as joyful and memorable as a large one. Some even more. My own wedding included people I could count with my two hands and it was the best day ever.
Applying feng shui to your micro wedding will make it even more special. Plus it's easier to achieve a solemn atmosphere with a smaller crowd. Below are simple steps you can follow to make your mini celebration auspicious.
1. The Dress. Choose a simpler wedding dress that is more on the milky white side. Ivory, cream and beige are good too. Just not paper white as this is the color of mourning among the Chinese and is a well known feng shui taboo. The same applies to the groom's dress shirt and accoutrements.
2. Plants. Fill the space with greenery. This is one of the best ways to improve precious yang, or growth, energy. Adding plenty of greenery to your wedding and reception spaces attracts growth potential as a couple and provides your wedding with vitality that will propel you forward in your married life.
3. Flowers. Choose wedding flowers based on what they symbolize.
Peonies symbolize youthful love and romance. They are the epitome of passion and a vibrant sex life.
The lotus is a symbol of purity and the ability to rise above the ashes. Incorporating them in your bouquet signifies your strength as a couple to withstand challenges that come your way.
Orchids attract future career and financial chi. Purple orchids in particular bring opportunity and business/career success.
Chrysanthemums, tulips, gladiolas, lilies are powerful in attracting wealth and prosperity.
Flowering branches and garlands represent longevity and overcoming adversity.
4. Flower bath. Take a flower cleansing bath to purify and uplift your spirit on the eve or morning of your wedding day. Simply bathe in a bathtub sprinkled with the petals of at least five different flowers in the five colors of the five elements. There should be pink, yellow, white, blue, and green petals from flowers or herbs. You can also infuse your bath water with essential oils such as lavender, jasmine or gardenia to complete the experience. This uplifting ritual will help to infuse your body with beautiful yang energy and soothe your mind.
5. Good lighting. Outdoor weddings are the best since you have a good supply of natural light which symbolizes a bright future for the couple. Dark corners prevent good chi from flowing freely throughout the event space. Though natural light is ideal, dim corners can be easily remedied with candles (real or flameless), fairy lights, lamps or chandeliers. You can also creatively make use of mirrors and crystals to reflect more of the lighting you have in place.
6. Get rid of negative energy. About an hour before the program starts, clear your wedding and reception spaces to get rid of negative energy with incense. The healing scent of incense is a great way to revitalize energy and remove negative spirits. Have someone light the incense and walk around the entire area until all spaces are covered.
Follow this with the healing and resonating sounds of singing bowls. Using a singing bowl is also a great a way to purify wedding venue vand release old, stuck energies. First, set your intention before you begin. You can also share your intention with someone who can perform this ritual on your behalf.
To begin, strike your singing bowl once to wake it up then strike the bowl in its north, south, east and west sections. Now strike it and start moving the mallet around the bowl to make it hum. Carry the bowl on its cushion (if it came with any) in your left hand and use your right to hold the mallet to move it around the bowl. Walk beginning from the center of the room to the main entrance then walk in a clockwise fashion around the space.
7. Face your sheng chi (or prosperity) direction. This involves knowing your kua number (a practice in Eight Mansions Feng Shui). You can easily find online calculators for your kua number - you simply enter your birth date and gender. Once you know you kua number, your sheng chi directions are as follows:
Kua # 1 - Southeast (other auspicious directions: East, South North)
Kua # 2 - Northeast (other auspicious directions: West, Northwest, Southwest)
Kua # 3 - South (other auspicious directions: North, Southeast, East)
Kua # 4 - North (other auspicious directions: South, East, Southeast)
Kua # 6 - West (other auspicious directions: Northeast, Southwest, Northwest)
Kua # 7 - Northwest (other auspicious directions: Southwest, Northeast, West)
Kua # 8 - Southwest (other auspicious directions: Northwest, West, Northeast)
Kua # 9 - East (other auspicious directions: Southeast, North, South)
If you get a 5, that converts into 2 for males and 8 for females. You and your partner should both aim to face your respective sheng chi directions during the ceremony as well as at the reception to attract good marital luck. If it's not at all possible to face your sheng chi direction, you can face one of your other three auspicious directions.

8. Hang a bell or bells by the entrance. Bells, when rung, are a powerful source of yang energy. Hang a bell or a set of bells by the main door through which your guests would enter. You can even simply hang it on the door knob. The bells chiming everytime someone comes in helps clear negative energy and stimulates positive chi. Bells also bring good luck and prosperity.
9. Avoid exposed ceiling beams. Though they may lend a rustic charm, you and your guests should avoid standing or sitting beneath them both at the wedding and reception venues. You don't want these beams to "press" on you and your guests. This can cause relationship, money and health problems and even emotional stress like worry, a sense of hopelessness and difficulty to make decisions.
10. No fighting or crying. Tears of joy are ok. This is supposed to be a cheerful occasion. Keep your calm if something didn't go as planned. All issues need to be solved in a peaceful manner. This is to ensure a smooth path in your new married life.
These are the top 10 ways you can basically feng shui your micro wedding.
