To Breathing New Life Into Your Space
I'm a sucker for cute. A typical Target run for laundry soap would end up with me coming home with gold key holders from Hearth and Hand, a tiered summer dress from Universal Thread and a candle bought with only a secondary thought for the scent but mostly because of (you guessed it) the cute gold container it came in.
I guess it's because I'm a very visual person. Which explains the work that I do. My eyes appreciate and absorb my surroundings more than the rest of my senses. I feel the urge to pick up these items because I like to surround myself with things that make me smile, that make me happy.
But I don't just grab any trinket. They also all provide a practical purpose. That's why I've never had any problem with clutter. Things never just pile up. That would defeat the purpose of creating an environment that pleases me.
This is the same with feng shui. Your space doesn't have to look like a tacky Chinese restaurant to achieve the atmosphere you're going for. Feng shui can and should always be applied in the styling of your home incorporating the things you love. The ultimate goal is to enjoy a space that is pleasing to you. The design should be executed with you in mind and what makes you happy. When you're feeling good, you exude positive chi or (good energy) and that transfers on to everyone else inhabiting your home or anyone visiting.
It's also important to note the significance of striking a balance. You can't just hoard and fill your home with too much stuff. This will just result in clutter, a big feng shui taboo. It literally and figuratively serves as a major blockage from you achieving your full potential. I mean who'd have fun tripping on stuff on the floor or spending too much time looking for something just because everything's all over the place? Who can focus on anything when your surroundings are cramped with all sorts of knick knacks?
You don't need to read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo to know if things are borderline chaotic.
You can see it.
You can feel it.
What you need to do is get off your butt and make the time to dispose of the things you no longer need. Things that probably may have served a purpose at one point or another but doesn't quite feel a part of where you are now.
Let them go.
Give them a new home if you think it's being wasteful just tossing them out. You'll find donation bins at almost any parking lot. There's probably a Goodwill or a Salvation Army near you. If you have the time, sell them on eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, Let Go, Mercari...the list goes on. But if not, just give them away or toss 'em.
Holding on to things that no longer serve you is just preventing you from moving forward and opening yourself up to exciting new possibilities and better opportunities life has to offer.
Make room.
It's your way of telling the Universe you're ready for bigger and better things.
Though Spring is a popular season to declutter, anytime of the year would be great. Do it multiple times a year if you have to, until you reach a place where you can breathe. Tip: If you spend a minute or two mulling over a specific item, get rid of it. It's the same when shopping for clothes, if it's not an immediate "Hell, yeah!" - it's gotsta go.
No one else is going to do it for you. Just dive right in and get busy. Be ruthless. You'll be amazed at the amount of peace that will instantly fill your space, your mind, your heart. You might even find yourself asking, "Why have I waited this long?!"
To breathing new life into your space,
