Drowningin a pile of mess?
We just had a 12 ft. construction debris bin picked up. It was full to the brim.
Next Monday, we'll have another bulk pick up just for regular junk.
When you live in a first world country, the mentality, or habit, is consume, consume, consume...buy, accumulate and hoard some more.
Nothing ever seems to be enough.
Options for such basic things like shampoo or cereal fill entire aisles. So we want this, maybe that too and a second box or bottle for backup.
The amount of stuff discarded from the first bulk pickup already made room for us to breathe. It has made one more area in the backyard look and feel like a backyard again.
It feels good. Pleasant to the eyes.
I anticipate the second bulk pickup to make us breathe even easier. Tons of stuff will be taken out of the shed as well as the attic. Even though we don't frequent these areas, we know the stuff is there. Things that used to be of use that is now only taking up space. Those things add up. And they weigh heavily in the back of our heads.
Can you imagine living in a home that only has everything you need? Each item has a purpose. Used every single day or at least once a week. If that's all we kept, we'd all enjoy a space that's easy to move around in, where we always know where every single item is stored, where we are efficient, not suffocating in pantries, garages, closets and cupboards bursting with things we can't even remember where they came from.
Life is simply made up of days stringed together. And if we can make each day a bit better by clearing the clutter, by simplifying the space we occupy, imagine the kind of life we'll be creating and living.
A life wherein we can breathe easier, think clearer and focus on what matters, without the distraction, without the mental baggage, without the subconscious emotional stress of drowning in a pile of mess.
Pick one thing you can live without today.
"Get rid of clutter and you may just find it was blocking the door you've been looking for." - Katrina Mayer
