Passion is Recession Proof

People still talk about education as the end all and be all road to success. About a decade ago, I would've agreed. Not anymore though. Not until the internet. And now it's in full swing. It has changed the ballgame big time. Turned around the formula for success a full 360.

Don't get me wrong, I did finish college. And I wouldn't trade my experience and the relationships I've made in campus.

It just has nothing to do with anything I'm doing now.

I have a degree in BA Philosophy. A 4-year degree earned in three. Me. A photographer. A blogger. An online entrepreneur.

If anything, I wish I'd have realized what I was passionate about early on. Skipped all those years doing bull crap corporate work. What a waste.

About seven or eight years ago I stumbled upon something I felt passionate about and was good at. I've always been into bath products and started experimenting making my own. Homemade lotions and scrubs baby. Definitely took it to another level there than the Sephora junkie.

I spent insane hours researching online, reading books, experimenting, failing, experimenting, failing over and over again.

I painfully yet happily taught myself HTML. Developed and created a comprehensive website covering a complete line of products, home spa services, classes, an extensive ingredient directory and network marketing.

From scratch, I created Home Spa Manila. I've been featured on top TV shows doing demos and giving DIY beauty tips, my products receiving People's Choice awards on top fashion and beauty magazines, my story shared in leading business magazines.

I was happy. Proud. Then I hit a plateau. I needed a break. Out of nowhere I felt a deep loneliness and utter boredom in life in general it was driving me fucking nuts. I was about to crack.

I needed to escape.

So I left.

To breath.

To recharge.

To take a time-out.

And then I met a man.

Who changed my life.

And I decided not to turn back.

I left.

For good.

Left.

Everything.

Now here I am. A different country. A totally different life I never in my wildest dreams have imagined. It seemed not just a whole new chapter. But a whole new book. Doing the only thing that remained constant all these years that I've dreamed of doing.

America is still the land where dreams come true. True passion is recession-proof. If you just let go of the impatience, the complaints, the endless excuses. If you're true to yourself, follow your heart, live and breath what you love doing and what you're good at, really work your ass off, treat the people around you with kindness and respect, love and take care of your family, you will be successful. You will be happy. With or without a college degree.
